Privacy & data notes

This journal is a static publication. There are no accounts, no checkout and no advertising scripts — just pages, pictures and one small browser note that you can remove at any time.

What this journal is

Marigold Spun is an editorial confectionery journal published from a small candy atelier in Asheville, North Carolina. We write about flavour, sugar craft and the seasonal pantry. Nothing on this site is sold, ordered or reserved, and we do not run a customer database.

Because the site is made of plain documents, your visit is not tied to a profile of you. There is no newsletter list, no comment system and no membership area to sign into.

The one note we keep

When you dismiss the storage notice at the bottom of a page, the site saves a single short value in your browser's local storage under the name marigoldSpun.storeNotice.v3. Its only job is to remember that you have already answered, so the notice does not appear again on your next page load.

  • The value never leaves your device.
  • It contains no identifier, timestamp or reading history.
  • It is not shared, sold or combined with anything else.
Clearing your browser's site data removes the note instantly. The notice will simply appear again the next time you open a page.

What we deliberately skip

We keep the site free of the usual audience-measurement machinery, because a candy journal does not need it:

  • No analytics or visitor-tracking scripts.
  • No advertising pixels, retargeting tags or affiliate links.
  • No third-party fonts, video players or embedded widgets.
  • No cookies set by this site beyond the storage note described above.
  • No form fields, so there is nothing for you to submit by accident.

Illustrations and photography on the journal are made in-house and hosted alongside the pages themselves, which means opening an article does not announce your visit to any other company.

Email correspondence

If you write to us at marigold.spun.desk@gmail.com, we receive your message and whatever you chose to include — usually a question about a technique or a request to visit the tasting counter. We keep those messages only as long as needed to answer them, and we never add correspondents to a mailing list.

Our mailbox is hosted by a mainstream email provider, so messages pass through systems we do not control. Please do not send sensitive personal details; a postcode and a question about sugar glass is plenty.

Younger readers

Confectionery is a joyful subject for younger cooks, and the journal is written to be readable by them. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we ask that anyone under sixteen writes to us through a parent or guardian. Hot-sugar techniques on these pages are described for adults working in a supervised kitchen.

Your choices

  • Dismiss the storage notice with either button and the note is saved.
  • Use your browser's site-data controls to erase the note at any time.
  • Browse with storage blocked: every page still works, only the notice repeats.
  • Email us to ask what correspondence we hold about you, and we will tell you.

Changes to this notice

If we ever change how the journal handles data, this page changes first and the date at the top of the page moves. Substantial changes will be flagged in the journal index so regular readers are not surprised.
